In the second half of April, the Estonian Land and Spatial Development Board adopted a new generation of The Estonian Address Data system and National Register of Place Names, the first part of which was the opening of a new register of place names for public use. The National Register of Place Names is a national register, which collects and registers information about Estonian place names. It processes, stores and makes place names available to users.
The Place Names register registers all official place names – including streets, roads, forests, bodies of water, islands, mountains, etc. In addition, unofficial place names are also recorded.
The data is available both through public services and X-tee, providing high-quality basic information for planning, navigation and data analysis.
The new address and place names system makes the data more accurate, up-to-date and better usable – for public service providers, private companies and ordinary users.
