Mr Carl Pucci, Head of American Operations, Datel, presented the Find Your Town project to more than 100 countries at the United Nations in Geneva.
Public open data is increasingly becoming available from governments around the world. However, to enable better-informed decisions on all levels of government and help the communities in their goals the data and information first need to be translated into knowledge.
The Public Open Data and E-Governance for Local Government session discussed the ways for communities to make the open public data work for their benefit, including for rural economic development and issues related to the creation and replication of the necessary tools.
Datel developed a software platform for local governments that can be used by local communities to tell their own stories. The outcome is a user-friendly and reasonably priced search engine, ‘FindYour.Town’, which enables local governments to create, with open data from federal and local governments, websites introducing their communities. The platform is accessible free of charge across the U.S.
